In mid-January 2011 Ikhaya le Themba began phase 2 of its building development with funding from Ein Hertz vur Kinder, Transitional Trust and PEPFAR as well as some private donations.
We are happy to announce that this building project was completed in October 2011.
The project included the construction and development of the following:
- 3 practical teaching classrooms (library, computer room, teaching kitchen)
- a second multi-purpose hall adjoining the current hall
- an ablution block (including 3 toilets, 2 showers)
- the re-shaping of the land including a grassed play area, a driveway and parking areas, as well as a large food garden area on the top side of the property
We are excited about the increased capacity as an organisation that this infrastructure will provide us with, and believe it is a crucial step forward in bringing hope and change to the community of Imizamo Yethu.
We are still looking for donors for finishing touches including:
Shelving and Cupboards - R83 000
Paving and soft landscaping - R40 000
Re-paint of our original building - R30 000
Curtains, blinds, mats and bean bags - R18 000 |
